In this blog I’m discussing what could happen to festivals in 2021. This includes the online – in person debate for going to festivals this year ahead.
According to Lanre Bakare, the guardian arts and culture correspondent, festivals are likely to be phased back over the next few years. However, since the current change in Covid-19 restrictions this period of time will be longer.
Festivals will be delivered in a different form; this means more festivals will be online. There are positives and negatives for festivals being online.
Positives – More people will be able to attend as they wouldn’t necessarily have to take time off work
- More Technology sales, many festivals will be streaming their sets.
Negatives – Smaller Bands won’t be seen therefor not being able to become a bigger act
- You have a community of people who enjoy the same thing you do
- Food Vans don’t have work therefore losing money
- Many people not having jobs over festival season, (no income)
However, some festivals are hopeful that a small portion of event goers will still be able to go to festivals. This would be made possible by either having had the vaccine, staggered entry times and contactless payments. If festival goers are allowed to go in person, one of the biggest problems at festivals is hygiene. This is because many festivals use temporary toilets, and from experience the hand sanitiser can run out pretty fast. There for needing a place to wash your hands regularly is important.
In Conclusion, festivals will have to be careful about allowing people back to onsite events. There are both positives and negatives to going back to festivals in person. In the future no matter whether we go back to going to online Festivals or in person festivals technology will be used more often.
